What is it to be human? What are we actually doing here? How do we overcome loss, sorrow and illness? Where did we come from and where are we going?
These are some of the questions we delved into at the 4th International Storytelling Festival in Sweden this Summer.
I’ve recently returned from a wonderful, thought-provoking and life-enhancing week telling and listening to many stories.
The Festival’s title “Being Here” explored what exactly "Being Here" and "Being Alive" means to each of us in our lives at this time.
I was fortunate to have been invited to offer a storytelling performance, as well as coaching workshops to three other Swedish storytellers - Andrea Berge, Kerstin de Verdier and Lia Staralv - who performed a collection of stories which were drawn from their own lives, wonder tales and folktales.
I was also deeply inspired and enriched by performances and workshops given by Dutch/American storyteller and psychotherapist, Mary Sue Siegel and Swedish storyteller Matts Rehmann, who guided us to the heart of why we tell the stories we well, and how to share our stories with our full humanity and artistry.
