Yesterday my partner and I, Duncan, joined some 40,000 others to demonstrate in London from Temple to Parliament Square.
The evening before we had been to see the inspirational new film, Pride, based on the true story when gay and lesbian men and women and the miners supported each other and marched together in solidarity in the 1980s. After the film Duncan told me about his personal experiences during the miners strike collecting food for the miners in Leeds.
As we walked to Parliament Square yesterday with the colourful, chanting, placard-holding crowd, we mentioned other demonstrations we had been to when the cause felt immediate and direct, whereas climate change can be much harder to grasp. And perhaps this is all the more reason to find ways to come together and inquire deeply into how we relate to our world; the kind of world we want to live in; and what our own contribution might be.
There was a wonderful atmosphere during the demonstration and it felt fantastic to be amongst so many people of all ages declaring our care for this earth that needs our protection and love.
