This Tuesday evening at the British Library, I had the pleasure of listening to a very illuminating and entertaining lecture by renowned historian Peter Hennessy, about the nature of memory and historical enquiry. This lecture was particularly interesting to me as an oral history interviewer and researcher with National Life Stories. My research project is focussing on in-depth life history interviews with people who have worked as court clerks in Crown Courts from the 1970s onwards. Peter Hennessy raised very interesting questions about the processes of recording, constructing and writing history. His inaugural lecture for National Life Stories will soon be available on the British Library's podcasts website. To read more about National Life Stories, click here.
