The story of the Northwood Voluntary Aided Detached, Military Auxiliary Hospital will be collated through photographic images, newspaper reports, first and second hand accounts, records of personal involvement, and through key stories of the lives of those involved (including soldiers injured at the Battle of the Somme).
As part of this project, I will be offering reminiscence and oral history training workshops. I will also facilitate workshops to interpret the oral testimonies through visual artwork, dramatised scenes, poetry and prose pieces. The creative interpretations of the oral testimonies will be shared and celebrated with the local community in 2014 to mark 100 years of the church building and 100 years since the beginning of World War 1.
Northwood Community Arts is seeking volunteers to help with historical research and to collect reminiscences from people that may have had a family member or friend connected with the VAD hospital. Contributions are also welcome from anyone with information, artefacts, or photographs relating to this pivotal time in the history of Northwood. If you are interested in becoming involved please contact Joy Tracy, Northwood Community Arts Project Manager on 01628 675800, or email [email protected]
